H1N1 Influenza Outbreak (Swine Flu) as at 1st June 2009

Medical Expenses

For All Policyholders:

If policyholders travelling overseas suffer the misfortune of contracting this particular strain of influenza, there are provisions within the policy to claim for medical expenses incurred to treat this illness in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy.

If emergency assistance is required, Policyholders are advised to immediately phone the 24 hour Emergency Service on + 44 1243 621 077.

Cancellation and Amendment Expenses:

For Policyholders travelling to or through Mexico or any other country with a W.H.O confirmed outbreak of H1N1 Influenza
For Policyholders intending to travel to or through these countries there is no provision under the policy to claim for cancellation or amendment costs. The Australian Government travel advice has not reached Level 5 "Do not travel" and therefore claims for cancellation or amendment which arise directly or indirectly from an epidemic or pandemic, are excluded from cover at this time. In the event the Australian Government warning is escalated to Level 5 "Do not travel" the policy does carry provisions for cancellation and / or curtailment of pre-booked travel arrangements.

For Policyholders travelling to all other destinations:

For Policyholders intending to travel overseas, but who are not travelling to or through Mexico,or any other country with a W.H.O confirmed outbreak of H1N1 Influenza, there is no provision to claim for cancellation or amendment expenses if the decision is made to cancel or curtail their trip due to this influenza strain, unless the Australian Government travel advice for their chosen destination is increased to Level 5 "Do not travel"

If your trip consists of more than one destination, your claim will be limited to the unavoidable costs of rescheduling your trip to avoid those countries with a Level 5 warning, and not the cancellation or curtailment of the whole trip.

Important Information:

Irrespective of relevant policy provisions, policyholders should assess their own risk regarding the destinations to which they are travelling.
