FAQ's

We've tried to pull together as many of the questions we're asked the most. If there's something we haven't answered drop us a line at travel@insure4less.com.au

Is there cover for terrorism?

It’s not our intention to discourage Australians from travelling but terrorism is a fact of life and understandably you want to know what cover you have. Insure4less has negotiated special terms with their underwriters to give you some of the best possible protection available. For example, unlike most of our competitors, we don’t have a blanket exclusion for all terrorist activities. Nor do we restrict the amount that we are prepared to pay out for medical expenses. So, if you travel to a country where there are no Government warnings and are caught up in a terrorist activity, you will be covered under all the relevant sections including medical and baggage. Not only that, but if you have already paid for your travel and travel insurance and then the Government issues a warning against travel to that destination, you will be covered to cancel your trip.

Can I extend my policy whilst overseas?

Don’t know when you’ll be back? Don’t worry, Insure4less-travel lets you extend whilst you're travelling. Simply complete and submit the form at www.insure4less.com.au/page/policyextend. You must also bear in mind that if you have, for instance, an ongoing medical claim at the time you wish to extend there will be no further payments made relating to that particular claim. This is the main disadvantage of taking a shorter period at the outset and extending later as you run the risk of having continuing medical bills to pay yourself.

Can I buy insure4less travel insurance if I'm on a one-way ticket?

Yes. When entering your details, put the date you want the insurance to end in the "date returning home" field. Please be aware however, that if you need to be repatriated during your trip and do not hold a return ticket at that time, you will be charged for the cost of that return ticket by the insurer. In addition, in the event of a claim you maybe asked to demonstrate that you intended to travel back to your normal country of residence.

Am I covered for motorcycling?

Yes. You are covered under all sections except for Personal Liability, subject to you having a motorcycle licence if you are the driver or the driver having one if you are a passenger.

Am I covered to drive a car?

Yes, subject to you having an appropriate licence, although you will not be covered under the Personal Liability section for driving. This cover should be provided by the car owner or rental company.

If I lose all my baggage, can I start a claim from overseas?

You can, but bear in mind that you will be corresponding with the Insurers at long range. Your family back home can deal with the correspondence on your behalf, once they have any relevant original paperwork. Cases of total baggage loss are always traumatic and very inconvenient, however fast the claim can be dealt with, so take extra care if you are carrying all your worldly goods with you.

I am going away for a year, but will return home briefly in the middle of my trip. Is the cover continuous?

Yes, provided you have not returned early and made a claim on the insurance. Remember that you will not be insured whilst in your home country.

Are unused periods of insurance refundable, if I return home early?

No, in a nutshell. If in doubt, it is better to take a shorter period of cover and extend later, if required.

Am I covered if I miss my flight because of a traffic jam on the motorway?

Yes, if there has been a road traffic accident or vehicle breakdown delaying the vehicle in which you are travelling.

Am I covered if my flight from Brisbane to Sydney is delayed and I miss a connection because of the delay?

Yes, for necessary additional accommodation and travel expenses up to the policy limit, provided you have left sufficient time between the two flights, i.e. planned to arrive at your departure point at the earliest scheduled check-in time.

What should I do with my belongings if I’ve gone to the beach and want to have a swim? My hostel doesn’t have a safe place to keep them.

You should not leave any money or valuables unattended at any time. If necessary, ask someone you know to look after your belongings.

What happens if the police don’t write me a report if I have my belongings stolen?

You should obtain a report from your holiday representative, hotelier or local tourist office wherever possible, confirming the loss and reasons why the police would not help.

Am I covered if I accidentally cause damage in the hotel I’m staying in?

Yes, up to the policy limit, but subject to the excess (See policy).

Am I covered for cancellation if one of my relatives is taken ill?

Yes, subject to the policy terms and conditions relating to the health of travelling companions and others on whom the journey may depend. The insurance will pay your cancellation costs if your relative is taken ill or dies before you are due to go away necessitating you to cancel the trip. A relative means any of the following who is under 85 years and is resident in Australia or New Zealand: husband or wife (or de facto partner with whom you are living permanently at the same address), parent, grandparent, parent-in-law, brother, sister, child, grandchild, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daugher-in-law or fiancé(e) .

If I have to return home for an insured reason, will the insurance compensate me for my lost holiday?

Curtailment means cutting your planned journey short by early return to Australia or admission to hospital overseas as an in-patient so that you lose the benefit of the accommodation you have paid for. The insurance will pay on the basis of the number of complete nights accommodation lost. In respect of travel expenses, the insurance will pay for any additional costs, but not for the loss of pre-booked arrangements.

If I’m stuck at the airport because my flight is delayed can I cancel and go home?

Yes, if the flight has been delayed for 12 hours or more because of strike, riot, civil commotion, accident, mechanical breakdown or bad weather.
