Are you travelling overseas or within Australia and planning to do some rock climbing at the same time?

  • insure4less is the only travel insurance specialist in Australia (that we are aware of)  that's able to insure experienced climbers.
  • We have put together some great climbing travel insurance packages helped by our friends at the Australian Climbing Association.
  • We have an exclusive arrangement with our underwriters where we can agree cover without having to refer to them if your plans fit within their generous guidelines.

    If they don't, we can still discuss your case with them but it will probably take a bit longer to get a response back to you.

  • IMPORTANT POINTS
    • We are unable to provide climbing insurance if you are already overseas.
    • We must receive your application for climbing insurance at least 3 business days before you leave Australia.

      Here's what we can do....

Standard Rock Climbing Plan

 If you have a minimum of one years climbing experience, we can cover you for:

  • All Sports climbs, Abseiling and Bouldering, subject to:
    • All climbs are to use pre-placed permanently fixed protection, or top rope protection in accordance with ACA best practice.
    • All climbs are to be on previously graded and approved routes only.
    • All climbs are to be conducted at heights not exceeding 3,500m above sea level.
    • Bouldering to be conducted at heights not exceeding 4.5m.
    • You must wear suitable protective equipment including a climbing helmet at all times when climbing or at the rock face.
    • Please note that there is no cover for ice, glacier, alpine or mountaineering under our Standard Plan.

      This insurance will not cover you for:
      1. Any ice, glacier, freesolo or solo, alpine or traditional climbing, or any climbing/trekking involving multi stage ascents, professional guides or porters without the prior specific approval of Underwriters.
      2. Any climbing above 3,500m above sea level.
      3. Any exploration of new routes.
      4. Any bouldering without the use of crash pads.
      5. Any costs incurred during the search for, or recovery of, your body when the location of your body is not known, or when approval for the search or recovery has not been given by Underwriters and/or their representatives.
      6. Any gradual deterioration, wear and tear, damage to equipment whilst climbing or the voluntary or enforced abandonment of equipment whilst climbing.
      7. The first $500 of each and every claim under section 2 Medical expenses in respect of claims arising from climbing only.
      8. Any claim if you have not purchased a standard insure4less travel insurance policy from the date that you leave your home in Australia to the date that you arrive back in your home in Australia.
The Standard Rock Climbing Plan includes these extras if you buy the excel plus insure4less travel insurance policy, subject to the policy terms and conditions:
    • Search & Rescue limit increased to $50,000
    • Loss or damage to baggage increased to $7,500.
    • Total limit per valuable $1,500
    • Maximum per item, pair or set increased to $1,000.

 Alpine Rock Climbing Plan

If you have a minimum of two years climbing experience, we can cover you for:

  • All rock climbing activities including traditional and sport rock climbing, mountaineering, ice or glacier climbing, bouldering and abseiling.

    • All climbs are to use leader placed protection, fixed equipment or top rope protection wherever possible, or climber fixed protection in accordance with ACA best practice.
    • All climbs are to be on previously graded and approved routes only.
    • All climbs are to be conducted at heights not exceeding 6,500m above sea level.
    • Bouldering to be conducted at heights not exceeding 4.5m.
    • You must wear suitable protective equipment including a climbing helmet at all times when climbing or at the rock face.

      This insurance will not cover you for:
      1. Any freesolo or solo climbing, or any climbing/trekking involving multi stage ascents, professional guides or porters without the prior specific approval of Underwriters.
      2. Any climbing above 6,500m above sea level.
      3. Any exploration of new routes.
      4. Any bouldering without the use of crash pads.
      5. Any costs incurred during the search for, or recovery of, your body when the location of your body is not known, or when approval for the search or recovery has not been given by Underwriters and/or their representatives.
      6. Any gradual deterioration, wear and tear, damage to equipment whilst climbing or the voluntary or enforced abandonment of equipment whilst climbing.

    • includes all the extras as the standard rock climbing plan PLUS
    • Avalanche closure $750 (subject to 24 hour excess)

    Once we have this information we will email you confirming

    • Whether we can insure you and if so,
    • What the additional premium on top of  the normal insure4less insurance premium will be. 
      *Please note, we are unable to provide medical expenses for climbing in Australia.

    If you wish to proceed on this basis, we will ask you to email us back when you have bought your travel insurance, advising us

  • Of your certificate number and that
  • You authorise us to charge your credit card the additional premium.

    insure4less will then issue you with an endorsement to extend cover to include your planned climbing.
